Penis Pump

What is a penis pump?

All of Oakwood Health’s patients will receive a penis pump. The cylinder and pump are used to create a vacuum that helps the penis become erect.

A penis pump consists of a cylinder and pump (medically known as a Vacuum Constriction Device or VCD). A penis pump assists in creating a safe vacuum effect to help the penis become erect and help a man maintain his erection. Men use a VCD at home in combination with other prescribed ED treatments.

A penis pump helps

Prescribed VCDs are safe to use in treating many ED symptoms, including:

  • Renewing blood vessels in and around the penis and groin
  • Improving blood flow to the penis and groin area
  • Diabetes-related factors contributing to erectile dysfunction
  • Mental health issues such as depression or anxiety

Certain medical conditions like sickle cell anemia, some types of leukemia, or other blood conditions can make a penis pump unsafe to use. An accredited provider will determine the patient’s suitability for using a penis pump at home.

Does every patient receive a penis pump?

As an accredited provider, Oakwood Health generally prescribes a penis pump to men undergoing Acoustic Wave Therapy. When a man uses the penis pump at home, it can increase the benefits of clinical ED treatments. However, men with certain medical conditions may not benefit from a penis pump. It’s also essential to use a prescribed VCD because devices bought from unreliable sources have been known to cause penile injuries.
